Creating Content.

When creating content for the live show we wanted to make sure that we created a variety of different pre-recorded material to make sure the live show was interesting and managed to capture the interest of all age’s and interests.

One of the initial ideas that was decided on was going into a traditional barber shop so that we could include some information about trends at the moment, and with beards being a high profile fashion statement this was one of the content created. I decided to look online and find different barber shops within the area. After emailing a variety of different places I managed to find one that fit the criteria that was in Navenby, only a short drive away from Lincoln town centre. We progressed into looking into trends and other useful information that would be beneficial for our radio show that would work well with the establishment. It was important to us that we made sure that we asked questions that would reflect specific trend as well as offering us the opportunity to ask specific questions about what was relevant toward the shop its self. After coming up with the questions for the interview and arranging it, myself and the other presenter for the show went to do the interview. We both decided that the interview would take the better turn of it was a male on male interview so that it was potentially more accessible to listeners due too it being a male topic of discussion. It was decided that we would also make sure to get sound effects from the shop to add onto the interview in editing so that we could give the full illusion of an open barber shop due to us being there before opening hours. This was done by recording shavers, and phones ringing etc to create the ambiance.  When it came to editing the extra recordings we had meant that we were able to create a really interesting introduction to the interview, that added sounds made the pieces sound a lot fuller and more interesting.

Due to the show being on Headspace we wanted to apply an idea of locality towards the show, I did this by going around the town centre with some of the other members of the group and talking to local people within the market and the surrounding shops that may be interested in having interviews for the show. We managed to get into contact with a cobbler, a fabric supplier and also someone working within a well know fashion retailer (River Island). I personally took on creating the different questions for the different places we had approached. Me and Emma went to the fabric supplier (fabric corner) for my interview, after talking to her at her own stall we managed to set up an interview for later that day when the store was closed. I created a large amount of questions and then decided to delegate the interview to another member of the group for the record due to me being the presenter on the live show.

After conducting this interview we then went onto finding somewhere that was more unique as well as applied a high end value, we did this by progressing to steep hill so that we could talk to a boutique that works with both adults and also has a children’s shop. This was decided so that we managed to get a mix of interest due to the variety of ages that could be interested in what was available within the shops. Myself and the owner exchanged emails after talking within the shop about what we would both like from the interview and then came up with a variety of questions that meant we were able to get the most out of it. We created a combined interview that reflected both of her shops, both the adult boutique and the children shop so that it would create an over all summary of what was available as well as creating an interview that was interesting two separate kinds of people.

In addition to the pre-recorded content it was decided that we would have a live element too the show, this was so that there would be an ongoing exchange in the studio that kept the show dynamic whilst still reflecting the topic of the show. This was managed by bringing in a sowing machine into the studio and have a live sewing element. This provided us with added sound due to the noise from the sewing machine and would hopefully create a more dynamic feel to the show. After going into the fashion department at the university we managed to acquire left over materials so that we would be able to create something on the show that would then be shared on social media.

Pre-recorded interviews were a great way to include different aspects into the fashion show, however it was then decided that we would go and get different VOX’s from the general public about a variety of different questions. This meant that we could co-inside the questions we asked with the general public that we recorded with our different social media platforms creating buzz about the show. We combined the collective ideas of the interviews that we had thought up so that we could create VOX’s that applied further context too the show, this was done by asking specific questions related too.

  • Opinion on the beard trend
  • What your favourite winter trend?

After doing the interviews I also edited some of them, some by myself others with my co-presenter. When editing the barbershop interview we wanted to make sure that we captured the ambiance of the show so created an introduction with the sound effects recorded so that it had an interesting start. The interview was originally incredibly long, this caused some issues in the edit as we didn’t want to remove any of the interesting things that the interviewee has said. We managed to cut down a lot of the interview by removing some of the extra information given by the interviewee, which didn’t seem to cause an issue in the end result. I also edited the fabric corner interview, this was good to edit as a lot of the responses were too the point and kept it as a pretty clean edit. The Ruby Red interview was good to edit as it had lots of different information. However there was a lot of “umm’s” within the interview, this meant there was a fair bit of editing there so that we could get a cleaner interview, the interview could have done with having the levels edited so that the questions were clearer however this was only noticed after the show went on.

When it came to creating an online interest in the show I didn’t make much of a contribution. I managed to upload a few photos onto social media and put up some status updates, however I feel as though this for me was lacking. However I did make some.

As the show began to get closer we decided we had enough information about what was already created for the show and make the trail for the show, we did this by scripting me and mark to produce a relevant and exciting trail that would be appealing to the siren audience but would also follow the way we wanted to show to be perceived and sound.
